World Orienteering Champs 2008 Czech Republic

Show Profile  onemanfanclub Posted: 15 July 2008, 2:01 PM
Says something about the mens standard doesn't it, when the likes of Khramov, Omeltchenko and Weltzien placed in the last third of the cut, and the Czechs couldn't do better than 9th, with one miss!

All the aussie girls through again, Kath Ewels in particular finishing among some good company. Plus TWO Canadians, 1 Chinese. Nearest thing to a surprise miss would be just Sarah Rollins getting through for the Brits. Though you could argue Helen Winskill missing by 4 seconds in a "bonus extra Finn" heat deserves to be in the final as well.

With the North Americans doing better than a decade ago, and NZ no longer outclassed by Australia, I reckon some sort of competition for the Englaphone countries would be interesting. Not necessarily separate event but maybe calculated on something like WOC.

OK all comfy now; I see neil is on the board at mens b radio1

Show Profile  onemanfanclub Posted: 17 July 2008, 12:05 PM
Neil's made an OK start in heat B, but I think even if he catches a ride from Tero towards the end probably not OK enough...

Show Profile  onemanfanclub Posted: 17 July 2008, 12:25 PM
Promising start by Ross (heat A), if he can stay fairly clean for the rest should scrape in again. Neil must have found some of the traps that have caught a few others towards the end :-(

Show Profile  Andrew M Posted: 17 July 2008, 12:39 PM
rossco should make it easy

Show Profile  Greg Posted: 17 July 2008, 12:41 PM
easy?

Show Profile  onemanfanclub Posted: 17 July 2008, 12:41 PM
Don't know about easy, with those still to come, but those places he's caught with what looks like a shit hot 2nd half should make the difference

Show Profile  onemanfanclub Posted: 17 July 2008, 12:46 PM
Julian Dent on a flyer! Unfortunately also in heat A, & Norway unaccounted for too. Getting ahead of the Eesti, Bulgarian and Italian could prove very valuable for Ross!

ok might be a bit closer.. Julian Dent has gone through faster than ross at first radio. Does that make 5 that are faster then ross at the 1st radio.

Look out for Hofmeister (Ger), Kowalski (Pol) and Mike Smith (Can) - they might be the ones to make a difference. Hopefully see Chris soon

another nailbiter - would be nice to have a realtime clock and a startlist
