Darren Scott (who I don't think I've ever met either through orienteering or work) is still with DOC at Te Anau (more on the tracks and huts side of things), and has recently returned safely from a deployment fighting fires in NSW. Sounds like his crew were doing some pretty serious stuff, being dropped into remote areas and rapid response to fires breaching containment lines. Now back home, will be having to deal with an excess of water...
