Wheres all da partyz at?

Show Profile  AndrewT Posted: 26 October 2001, 2:19 AM
Come on, how longs it been since there have been any good epic orienteering parties?

Im talking about ones such as Easter 98 at Cross College, Central Champs 98 TOPEC and many more that I was unable to join in since I hadnt gotten into orienteering then.

Are we losing good partying talent? Where are the instigators and the troublemakers!? I feel that the only way to turn this decline in good partys around is to stop growing up and stop being more responsible.

Also while on the this topic, who wants to reminise (sic) on some of the O parties they feel were the best and why?

My personal fav is the Central Champs 98 TOPEC, where it rained heaps, I got absolutely trolleyed (along with my pal G Flynn) and a good time was had by all. I even had a good run the next day.

Yes,

There definitely seems to have been a decline from the epic orienteering parties of the 90's. Gone are the days of the "alcohol problem".

The Phil Wood Extravaganza earlier this year will definitley go down in history, although I guess it can not be counted as a true orienteering party, not being associated to any particular orienteering event.

Stay tuned for the end of year booze o however, looks like a goodie. 15th December I think.

I seem to remember (vaguely) a few good parties at Flock House. One of the nationals parties was there in 98? I seem to recall one person not making it to the relay the next day and spending the day locked out of the house and sleeping on the doorstep.

And possibly too many runs cut short on Sunday by you Jamie too. But we better leave that for another discussion!

Has anyone noticed that the decline in parties is directly proportional to the decline in Shaun Collins appearance at events?

There is a party god..... Shaun be thy name!

I think the ultimate party was the Fairview Closing party, but I guess that doesn't technically count.

So it would have to go to Kawhia Nationals. Woooooh!

No, Piopio Nationals. Woooooooh.

I think that the decline in party quality has been due to those noisy kids with their strobe lights and rap music.

the key to reinstigating the orienteering party is getting back to the basics of boys, girls and alcohol. I really don't think NZ orienteering has the numbers to support a dance party. we should go back to the good old days of drinking, singing and general raucousness. Also I feel the introduction of kegs could benefit. This would allow kegstands (under the supervision of trained experts of course) which could take orienteering parties to a whole new level. WOOHAA.

I'm not saying that I advocate binge drinking, but I do advocate binge drinking.

National's parties are probably my most memorable, but who can remember the last apperance of the o infamous keg in Naseby and the milk bottle vessles.

Hear ye, Hear ye

You are all invited to a banging good Guy Fawkes Party on Saturday 2nd November and Jimbo's House of Delights. It should be a cracker of a party.

Bring a tent or sleep under the stars. It is only a short drive to both event centres.

Dave can be in charge of the keg.
