points scoring

Right on wetfish

Yeah wetfish, your my inspiration!

And to you, thomas, why don't you just go back along to your little buddies at mountain biking? its a serious question - theres not to many people in orienteering who like you. And asking who that "nah retard" is. What cheek! Who are you? You come in to the sport a couple of years ago and now you just try to run the whole show, maybe change the name to Mountain O-ing.

Now i'm no scholar, but for someone who is supposedly the best in the world in English, perhaps you should work on your grammar and spelling:

Sentences start with a capital letter Like This, and end in a full stop, ".".
There are conventions on spelling, there's something called a dictionary you can check things in if you're not sure. eg "comitee" is spelt C-O-M-M-I-T-T-E-E
Proper nouns have capitals too.

And one last piece of advice - rather than asking the general populus who mostly hate you about your ridiculous proposals, why not get off your fat lazy ass and find out for yourself who you should earbash to try and get your own way.

I think I speak for all of us when I say "Fuck off!"

Speak for yourself nah, and take some of your own advice.

Thomas I think you have got the wrong impression of what the top schools trophy is for, and I think there should be some incentive for a school to send a large team to an event, hence the different points allocation for top school and premier school.

I agree with Greg. Nah, quit hiding behind a fake name you poof. Also nah, I dont hate Thomas, I just disagree with most things he posts on here because they are stupid.

Thomas made a perfectly reasonable suggestion which started off a reasonably well argued debate...

Then Simon got involved...

Show Profile  addison Posted: 25 May 2006, 8:27 AM
Pity I kicked your ass in fantasy rugby.

Show Profile  thomasr Posted: 25 May 2006, 8:30 AM
I accept that my idea is a bit misguided, i had forgotten about the premier trophy.
Does anyone know who nah is?
I mite be missing something, but i cant figure out who it is.
im prety sure he doesnt like me though.
Maybe angry was the wrong word simon, but everytime i come on maptalk i like to be able to see a bit of conflict. There hasnt been too much lately so i thought id put out another of my ideas, usually they attract a bit of criticism. Fine by me, its how ideas get better

Show Profile  SJ Posted: 25 May 2006, 10:12 AM
I don't think the current system needs to be changed - there is the Top School for a large number of good results, the Premier School for the best results, and the Small School which is pretty self-explanatory.

Simon did put the boot in! I think he's just miffed because I'm the current Sim-O'n champion, undisputed and long-standing.

Thomas - maybe just donate a trophy and allocate a points scoring system so that Westlake will win if it makes you happy? Don't know how easy it would be but worth a shot.

Show Profile  nick Posted: 26 May 2006, 6:14 AM
slightly off topic but, what i don't get is why theres such a division between schools O and 'ordinary' O...

whats the history there?

Show Profile  Martin Posted: 26 May 2006, 7:18 AM
i don't know why there is such a division, but comparing to other sports, most that i think of have even more division than orienteering does. for example (at least in auckland) the regional school sporting body (college sport) organises all the competitions - orienteering is the only sport i can think of where the clubs organise the school competitions, this is because of the specialised planning and controlling required and the lack of resources to do so. anyone with half a brain can organise a rockey, hoccer or sugby game!

one of the original aims of the junior superseries was to try and bridge the gap between the structured schools events and moving into elite superseries.

theres still something missing though, somethign to capture the school leavers and maintain their interest and participation in the sport. any ideas?

Show Profile  SJ Posted: 26 May 2006, 7:45 AM
Nick is right, there is a gap between School and Club Orienteering, definitely. How many of the students at Secondary Schools events come to club events? Very few. Regional and Nationals events? Even fewer. I don't even recognise most of the people at Secondary Schools events.

I think there is enormous potential to get the Schools orienteers into the sport fully, competing through clubs as well, and this would increase numbers in the sport by a huge amount.

Show Profile  nick Posted: 26 May 2006, 8:05 AM
ok... so its not just me!

so school O is stil run by the clubs? eg: Robbie and Bert's massive efforts? whats the theory behind the division then?

Show Profile  Martin Posted: 26 May 2006, 8:09 AM
the division is in the competitors, not the organisers. school orienteers go to school events, but generally not club events.

Show Profile  nick Posted: 26 May 2006, 8:22 AM
which begs the question: what are the clubs getting out of it? like, is it just to keep robbie and bert out of mischief!? or what? i am interested in "why?" if anyone cares to enlighten me?
