Looks like a pretty mint race, 18km from Whakapapa to Turoa with plenty of ups and downs. Pity about the $75 entry fee! and a broken leg.

Yeah, makes orienteers look like a bunch of tight arses when they are complaining about those $20 entry fees.
I am doing The Goat race too, so if anyone else is I will see you there!
The Kauri Run (www.arcevents.co.nz) which is on the following day in the Coromandel and also looks like a mint run is $95!

The Mt Te Aroha race always a good one and normaly has a good O turn out (race record held my Phil Wood until they shorten it a bit because of road rules, but his time is still faster)

Callum Harland, NZ world mountain running team (2nd kiwi behind john wyatt), did The Goat as a training run last weekend. He reckons its actually 24km and described it as a bloody tough run.
A quick count of the contours looks like 1000m+ of climb.
Sounds like a must do to me!
