Hi NZ orienteers
I'm a fellow orienteer from the Lake District in the UK, and am coming to NZ in september for a year of backpacking. However, as I'm slightly addicted to our fine sport, i don't think I can last a year without a bit of 'cunning running'. Having stumbled across this brilliant website, I thought I'd ask you people in the know what the best way to get into orienteering in NZ is...i.e do I have to be a member of a club to have a go, or can I just turn up to events and join in? Any advice will be welcome!
Looking forward to your hearing from ya.

Start here, its the Oceania Championships, which are being held in Auckland in January
http://www.geocities.com/nwocnz/Oceania.htm
That is pre-entry, as are the area championships that are being held in late October and November. The New Zealand Champs are in April (also pre-entry). Other events you can just rock up to and join in.
