Jukola relay

Show Profile  Alistair Posted: 16 June 2003, 12:02 AM
The Jukola relay was this weekend - biggest O' relay in the world with over 1200 mens teams of 7 runners entered. The only NZ runners I know of were Aaron, Greg & Claire.

Aaron - running off his fantastic run at Tiomila was put on the longish (12.8km) night leg - didn't quite sparkle this time with a time of 100.07mins to the best time of 79.03. http://www.jukola.com/tulokset/suo/j2003/ju/osuusajat/3/

Greg seemed to run reasonably finishing with a time 17 mins behind the best of Ex World Champion Bjørnar Valstad for the 10.2km course - time 75.47. http://www.jukola.com/tulokset/suo/j2003/ju/osuusajat/6/

Claire's team is listed as 612th in the women's relay although her time is registered as "sulj" along with 3 other of her team-mates - we'll have to maybe wait for Claire to explain that one... http://www.jukola.com/tulokset/suo/j2003/ve/joukkueet/612/

Claires team was DSQed on first leg therefore legs 3 and 4 were not allowed to start until well after the winning team had finsihed and no times recorded although she ran 52 min for leg 3.

Jukola is the most amazing orienteering race ever even the 3 degree temperature and showers couldn't spoil this (plus we had the best camping spot in the whole place after setting up in the forest next to the start/finish when everone else was about 500m away)

Todd and Bryn were there, they also ran in same team as me named US O team and friends 2 and yes it was as good as it sounds. Todd was on leg 3 as well (thats what you get when you don't help find a team hehe) doing 2 hours 1 min but is down as Bryn and Bryn did leg 4 (short) in 84 mins and is down as Tim. We ran alot beter than the rest of the team, Todd making up 100 places, Bryn 40 odd and I made up 139.
