With an under-strength team NZ MTB-Orienteers are holding up well in the 2019 Challenge in Victoria. 8 classes are being contested though one is unfortunately forfeited each time due to a bereavement.

In spite of this the scores in both the mass-start event and sprint were 4-4, and only in this afternoons middle did the Australians inch ahead by 5-3. Tomorrow there's a long distance event.

The events are being held in flat eucalypt forest near Maryborough with a dense maze of irregular tracks. The website is and results are on Winsplits.

The NZ team didn't quite make it in the long today, conceding to OZ 3-5 again, in spite of some strong individual performances. 15yo Ryan Moore showed exceptional promise riding M21 as we lacked any other M16 boys. The final score was 18 classes to Australia 14 New Zealand.

All done and dusted (well it WAS dusty except during the thunderstorm on Saturday! For a glimpse of typical fast riding see )

Kiwis who returned with championship wins were Kyla Moore (W14), Tegan Knightbridge and Marquita Gelderman (W21), Pete Swanson and Brent Simpson (M40), Viv Prince and Jacqui Sinclair (W60), Rob Garden (M60) and Michael Wood (M70).
