Splits, tracking and commentary, all for $0. I have reached a conclusion about what causes the problems with live coverage of WOC.

Well done all but especially Lara (31st) and Joe (45th). Just behind and just in front of top Aussies resp. But Aston Key DNS, if he's OK he'll be fresh for the sprint today - bizarre event order! Canada has a new star following Emily Kemp a few years ago - Jan Erik Naess 13th.

Well done again, Lara and Joe our best again but this time Joe posted a great 15th equal. Aston Key was just ahead (9=) while the top Oz girl was just behind Lara. Canada another great result (Emma Waddington 6th) but in the commonwealth this was eclipsed by Britain. Matthew Felbaum held a slender lead for ages until late-starting Colin Kolbe came in first for Germany - and from the sound of Colin's interview he's a Brit in disguise.

Unsubstantiated report from Attackpoint: "6 Russian athletes were caught in the sprint embargo area a few days ago. They were there without the Russian coaches knowledge and the team readily admitted to breaking the embargo rules and the entire team has been disqualified from the sprint..." I think it has become common to study the terrain on Google Earth, and in any case impossible to prevent. Maybe one of the drivers for the use of artificial barriers on the day - which we haven't seen much of, here.

Looks like Max, Joe and Cam qualified for the middle final which is Friday (with Joe and Cam recording identical times!) But kiwi star was Katie 6th in heat. Lara missed out by under a minute.

Middle qualifier: there appears to be quite a few controls were the men and women are running in opposite directions through them.

A tough middle final which saw even the favoured Swiss fold under the pressure. Our 4 finalists all ran well for 42 (Katie) and 41-42-44 (boys). Almost as well-matched as the Swedes:-)

Disappointing results in the relays, but there's no omelette without breaking eggs. The overall country result by some scoring system has NZ 12th, one place ahead of Australia. And the countries ahead have a lot of history. Well done all!
