The deaths of Murray Ball and John Clarke have been in the news, but more significant for the orienteering community is the passing of John Brammall. My recollection is of a gentleman; but you need more than gentleness to head Orienteering Australia, and to develop tiny Tasmania's reputation for great orienteering events. (Tasmania's population: about the same as greater Wellington or Christchurch.) As we meet in Auckland, some of us will remember that wonderful world masters in 1992 at St Helens. Best wishes to Val.

Agreed Michael. The quality of TAS major events that John was involved in from the 80s was a key reason why we kept returning. They set a standard for the mainland.

Great to see Val at WMOC in Auckland. She is also a huge contributor to orienteering in Tassie.
