The 8hr Catchpool Rogaine in Rimutaka Forest Park on Saturday was won by Dan Jones and Weston Hill. Jones is the son of Neil Jones, adventure racer and Coast to Coast winner. They beat top orienteer Nick Hann and Theo Wordsworth by 130 points, including the 760m Mt McKerrow in their 40km route. The 4hr section was won by brothers Josh and Nick Payne. A bad decision at the end of the 4 hours robbed "Powerpuff-ing Girls" of what could have been 4th place and top women's team. Their struggle down thru the scratchy 23-55-51 route left them over the maximum 30min lateness. Racing down the Butcher track, even without picking up 41 and 60, could have got them home in time. The team are 2nd-year engineering students at Auckland Uni led by former Hawkes Bay orienteer Vida Fox.

The statistics show Jones and Weston visiting 46 out of the 50 controls on the 8hr course. They were one of only 4 teams to visit Mt McKerrow. At the other end of the scale two teams scored 7 controls over their 4 hours. The 4 women of "No Direction" tied with the Sutherland family: dad and 3 kids down to 4yrs! The Sutherlands got the nod by being back earlier. A visit spreadsheet has been added to the top routes and gossip on http://bigtrig.ohv.org.nz
