And 50% full after a couple of hours...
100 entries two hours after the entry opened is that a record for a NZ orienteering event?!

Not sure that it's exclusivity, everyone like oringen which can hardly be called exclusive. But when it's limited then you know you need to be quick to be sure to get an entry - those experienced with spring challenge etc know about entering the moment the form goes live!
BTW I'm not hanging out on maptalk in the middle of the night, I'm in Denmark for work right now!

*fear of missing out on an awesome event speeds up orienteers usual slack attitude toward entering events

holy shit. I'm scared. Entry 211. At least there are a few other amusing things to do in that part of the world. I'm sure Fraser will let me pick up controls ;-)

The total number seems to be 162 currently so there are still 38 places left!(From my experience with the oentry system it seems to generate a number as soon as someone starts the entry process and not all of these turn into entries - anyway if click on the oentry link at the top you can get to see all the entries

as the entry cap is a landowner/manager requirement, does it apply to all days? I was never going to be able to do the whole week, so didn't want to take a place from someone who could, but if the travel distance for me was less I would toy with the idea of doing a couple of races. May be others closer in the same boat.

The restriction is due to the Queenstown Lakes District Council. Any event over 200 people requires a resource consent, so that applies to all the events on the first three days. We are further limited to 250 by the Department of Conservation for the Hāwea River and Bannockburn events.
I am not aware of any restrictions to the Cromwell and Butchers Dam events, but I haven't been as closely involved with those days.
It's really great to see all the entries come in and the series being so well supported. It will be a big boost for the area to have the new orienteering maps and I look forward to showing some of the unique terrain the area has to offer.
Cheers
