Huge Rogaine

The Heights of Winter rogaine last weekend attracted over 550 participants. Run by PAPO near Geraldine, there were 10, 6 and a new 2.5hr category. Chris Forne, Greig Hamilton and Matt Scott won the 10hrs but were run hard by Nathan Fa'avae and Trevor Voyce. Results at www.papo.org.nz, story on www.sportzhub.com/news/hot-competition-heights-winter-rogaine-2013/

Some of the teams are off to the Australian Champs near Cairns next weekend. Website at http://adventuresportnq.info/arc2013 No news about a NZ championship this year, it is possible there won't be one. But put 30 Nov in your diaries for a 10hr near Lower Hutt.

And unconfirmed info from the Australian Champs - actually its the Australasian Champs. Rob Jarvis and Phil Wood won open; Viv Prince and Richard Robinson won mixed supervet (+ 2nd XV and 3rd X open and 4th o'all); and the Oldies won the mixed ultravet which is a new category for 65+

But wait, there's more. Emma and Guy de Lacey 2nd mixed supervet and 3rd XV.

And another huge rogaine last weekend, with but a single kiwi. The 2013 world champs in Russia involved 314 teams, and was dominated by Estonia and Russia - 8 out of the top 10. Viv Prince with Australian Richard Robinson was 102nd and 4th mixed supervet. There were not many teams from Australia too, I'm guessing there was some disappointment with the move to annual world champs. Next year the champs will be in South Dakota (Aug 16-17) and 2015 will be in Finland. 2013 results at http://wrc2013.com include winners routes. There's a lot of blue on the map!

And the Taranaki SS Rogaine Champs has set a new NZ record with 954 participants. Well done OT!
