Orienteering Achievement of the Year

Matt Ogden has been nominated for orienteering achievement of the year, right up there with a lot of the big names! Make sure you follow World of O (http://www.worldofo.com) closely and remember to vote! (voting will open when nominations close)

In case there's anyone out there thinking "oh I can't vote for Matt JUST because we know him",consider this:

Matt won his gold with a near perfectly clean race in complex terrain, when all the favourites made mistakes; and by being physically fit enough to be able to take advantage of that. If that's not a victory for orienteering (or an orienteering achievement, if you prefer), what is?

Also it's a victory for the AOTC, a group who rather than bemoan the lack of training opportunities here compared to Scandinavia, have gone out and created them. And in the process, spearheaded by Matt's junior world title, have demonstrated it's not about what side of the world you live on but how prepared you are going into the race.

Well he may not have topped the WorldofO poll, but Matt has been given an unprecedented honour by NZOF. Not only top international junior performance of the year, but top international performance overall! Congratulations Matt!

Other performance awards announced on Sunday night were to Rob Garden as MTBOer of the year and to Kathrin Mueller and Val Rogers as Rogainers of the year. Details on the MTBO and Rogaine websites.
