Show Profile  Casser Posted: 14 May 2012, 6:20 AM
Yes - it is starting up today the first round of the 2012 World Cup, which is also the European Champs (maybe it is the other way round?). The events are in and around Borlange and Falun in Dalarna, Sweden.

Follow the action on:

It kicks off with the middle distance qualification 20.00 NZ time today.
Ross starts 21.06 - Go Ross!

The Aussies start times:
Ian Lawford 20.28
Julian Dent 21.18

There are no athletes from either NZ or AUS in the women's class.
Lots of live content on the web site as far as I can see - but better do some work now.

SVT (Swedish Television) is broadcasting live from the middle distance final, sprint final and the relays.

http://svtplay.se/c/96253/sport -> click "Livesändningar" on the right hand side and you will find the times... Sometimes the broadcasts are available on svtplay for a few weeks (such as WOC last year) but I cannot find any info regarding EOC.

And the time in Sweden is currently 10 hours behind NZ. (So the broadcast from the middle distance final starts at 23.10 on Thursday.)

Or just watch it on the official site http://www.eoc2012.se/ (which seems to be the easiest thing to do)

Looks like Ross is saving himself for the sprint - but the Aussies are racing to qualify on the long distance today. The live results seemed to work well yesterday, I didn't try out the other stuff as my connection is pretty slow.
Had a look at the map from yesterdays middle qual and it looked like pretty easy sand dune contour type of orienteering - Ross should have put on his longer legs;-)

Yep, I wish I could've borrowed your legs yesterday Carsten!! :D I was happy with my run, it was quite clean and I was running faster than expected at the moment and without pain! (for those who don't know I've had a lot of injury problems since WOC last year).
You can check out my map with route from yesterday here: http://omaps.worldofo.com/?id=60966

Charcoal burning grounds. Bah! We should invent a local invisible feature for Oceania. Maori kumara pit.

You're more than right, they're pretty wishful control sites :S #15 was just in the middle of nowhere!

How to make a "Charcoal burning grounds".
1. Create a fire
2. Let it burn
3. Mark it on the map.

As far as I know they are only used in the northern parts of Sweden and everyone for the south seems to hate them since the are more or less bingo controls.

Having said that, they are slightly more permanent than pitching a tent...

Other ways of warming up for the coming season of big events. Listen to O-rapper extraordinaire, courtesy of our mates over the Tas. Mick could you mix in some local names for kiwi consumption? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRK_s-W4oUg

Ross you probably need to borrow Tobi's long legs as mine are a tad old - and Tobi's legs might even be longer than mine
