Podium "fotos" can be seen on the event website www.italiaor2011.com.
Go there anyway just to see the scenery - it'll be hard to get Tim to leave the place.

  | onemanfanclub | Posted: 27 May 2011, 4:15 AM My Italian's not so hot but does anyone else get from the story "Nuova Zelanda, Belgio Fiammingo e Slovenia vincono la staffetta dell'amicizia" that NBHS's Isaac Sweetapple was part of the winning relay team? :-)

  | Michael | Posted: 27 May 2011, 6:16 AM Your Italian is good enough, 1man. For the others, http://www.opn.no/winners-from-three-nations.4925930.html

Maybe your Italian is good enough to tell us what the "selected teams" were and their relationship to what our guys were running?

  | raewyn | Posted: 27 May 2011, 8:55 AM Michael - The selected teams were country teams i.e the best three students of the correct age category from eg Sweden. The schools category is the best school team from the country, where all 5 students in the team must be enrolled fulltime with the same school for each category. NZ has chosen at this point in time, to allow the winning school team from the NZSS event held in July each year to attend this event, if the school is able to raise funds/pay for the entire trip themselves.

  | jh | Posted: 28 May 2011, 1:08 AM Martin may add something about this. NZOF has renewed its policy and now all schools can submitt names for 5-man teams to compete in ANY one of the 4 categories ie Jnr or Snr / Boys or Girls in WSSC. NZOF then selects the best team to represent each category based on the results from the Secondary schools' Competitions. At the moment NZOF will not select National SELECTED teams to represent NZ in the other four races.

Onslow College boys would have been very disappointed not to have had a boys team allowed to go to Italy this year.
I can tell you that the right to go now is fiercely contested. Schools have twigged onto how great the trip is for the kids... HB schools will have to work VERY hard now to get teams selected for next time (Portugal). It may be that all 4 teams will be from different schools next time.

I think the new level of competition to be selected now is an indication of how far the sport has grown. The Aussies aren't going yet but surely a school will twigg onto it soon after they hear about our success this year. And I think within the next decade the NZOF will be forced to rethink their policy about sending a selected team so that our kids can compete against the BEST. Then we could have 8x teams going over. Believe me, there are enough parents mad enough to spend all year fund-raising to get that trip for their kids.

  | tim.a | Posted: 6 June 2011, 1:25 AM Many delegations were very surprised that NZOF will not allow a selected group of teams to participate - they seemed to put it down to our strange little ways.
