Winter Classic 2011

Show Profile  Bryan Posted: 6 May 2011, 2:35 AM
Entries are now open for the 25th Anniversary Event to be held on 21st August 2011 at Ian Galloway Park, Northland/Wilton, Wellington.

This event promises to be one of the best.

See details at the following website:
www.winterclassic.co.nz

A new map and area will be used:
- there will be no street running this year
- native bush is more open
- there are also some fast run pines
- map detailed and tricky

Get in some training for Oceania 2013 and World Cups
in the Wellingon City urban embargoed area.

Come and try it!

Mapping finished and planning going well. Many of the controls not
so 'Wayne' like this year but there are still plenty of Classic-like controls for the purist.

Looking at some of the controls and loops, I think there is a golden opportunity to provide some sprint training for Oceania 2013 and World Cups. I don't want to detract from the classic and rogaine event, but I feel there are a few orienteers (and elites) who would rather do something a little less strenuous.

What would be the interest for two separate sprint courses (one in the morning, one in the afternoon about 2km each) held at the same time as the Winter Classic? The terrain is in the same area as the Oceania/World Cup 2013 and the course would be fast and furious like a normal sprint. It would be ideal World Cup racing/training on a new map at the same scale.

I would only do this if there was a reasonable response.

Anyone looking for/short a partner for this event?
Keen to give it a good go but not overly competitive about results/rankings either. Just a good run in the hills would do me!
zero two one two zero nine zero four five zero

Hey Bryan I can feel Wayne turning in his grave! Pandering to the soft and unfit is for events like... like the City Safari. The Karori Cemetery would be an awesome finale for the O-Max tho.

Its the start of the hectic time for the Winter Classic.

Only a few days to go before entry closes so please get your entry in.

For the offer of the extra two sprint events as well, I've only had 3 people interested. Are there any other people interested? As Wayne would say, be a man and try the Winter Classic.
