Chris....

Are the "Casual Starts" available for adults (as I suspect) or are these restricted to juniors as well?

Only available on the Friday?

Just trying to plan our NZ holiday.

Thanks
Geoff

There will be casual starts for all on the Friday from about 1:30 onwards but course closure at 4pm so we can move the controls. Red long will be about 7km. It was not planned to have any on the Saturday as it's relays, but we wouldn't be averse to control collection as part of a runners circuit.
And in confirmation of your comments on other threads, yes, you have run on the map before and it is steep in parts.

Can you please advise where the map can be found - "The map was last used for the 2010, before that the 2008 Katoa Po. The map from the last event is on the website."

The map should be posted on the CD website by the end of the weekend. A bit of a communication breakdown - sorry about that.
The whole area of land in the map is bigger than A3 sized at 1:10k and covers the triangle of land between Poihipi Road and the top half of Tukairangi Road. The SE boundary of the map is Scoria Road. This is a private road that runs from Poihipi Road to the quarry. It will be used to get to the Day 1 event centre. The quarry is a very prominent feature on Google Earth. The 2008 Katoa Po used the central block of land on the map. This is being used for the Day 1. 2010 Katoa Po used the western part of the map. This will be used for Day 2.

Thanks Chris

I think it might be this map.

May very well try and fit this into our holiday as I have really only run it at night.

I not certain of exactly where that photo was taken, but it doesn't look anywhere around where the courses go - it's too flat!

The entry forms have gone out to the Secondary Schools Sports Councils and all the regional sports organisations, but it appears that some schools may not have passed it on to interested children. They organisations were all made aware that there is a specific competition for Y7/8s as part of the event but it may not get to Intermediates or recapitated primary schools.
If you know of people who want to compete, get them to ask their school or they can get the entry form themselves off the website.

The programme is on the CDOA website. Start times for the Individuals will take longer as we are still sorting through entry forms. Looks like about 350 entries with at least 60 from Intermediate schools

To reinforce the potential conditions warning in the programme, with the southerly today, it was sleeting on the map and about 6 degrees! Of course, there is a possibility that the sun will be out and it will be balmy Tee shirt weather like last week was.

wow, good numbers! shows how good the CD is as a meeting place for North Island orienteers!

Show Profile  Taupoite Posted: 19 April 2011, 3:37 PM
Looks like 384 entries but there may be still some more to come in. Biggest field seems to be Intermediate Girls Championship with 49.

Another remarkable SS turnout was the Taranaki SS Rogaine Championship on 30 March - 457. Story on the OT website http://orienteeringtaranaki.blogspot.com or link from the NZOF rogaine website.

Forecast for the 29th and 30th is now available, and unfortunately it is looking cool and wet. Hopefully it will improve as we get closer to the date (it often does), but I'm aware a lot of the competitors will be packing now. So if you're competing, or responsible for a school team, please make sure you're bringing suitable clothing for cold weather orienteering!

The name of the park for Nick and Tim's event is Spa THERMAL Park, not Spa Park.

The amended start list will go up on the CD website today. It looks like total entries will be 390 competitors from 67 schools
