O-Ringen Orebro 2010

Show Profile  paultheOctopus Posted: 26 July 2010, 4:46 AM
and now our thoughts are with those who are lucky enough, or mad enough to experience o-ringen 2010. It's a bit like the kiwi orienteers right of passage. Those elephant tracks, choosing the correct finish chute, the often long walks to the start, the buses to event centers, the cue for the unfortunate at the fist aid tents the showers... it's all very eyeopening for the uninitiated. This years terrain looks totally cool nice.

Tom is managing to post stuff on his blog for us all to share which is a big thumbs up.

In general a two-digit placing is pretty good at O-Ringen. Kinda wish I was there - until reading about the rain. Thanks for the news Tom.

Looking round the O-Ringen website shows some interesting parts of the programme alongside the traditional courses. Miniknat alias string course, am I imagining that these have got less common in NZ? Pity. The O-Ringen Challenge, an endurance class with navigation at yellow level. And the O-Ringen multi: http://www.oringen.se/english/competitions/oringenmulti.4.39a60313129a34fc2c580004523.html

tomorrow (nz tonight)the Elite men and women run in a spectator friendy park sprint, the others all do a long distance race. Looking at the forest map, if it hasn't stopped raining yet maybe they should wear their gumboots

Show Profile  paultheOctopus Posted: 27 July 2010, 1:25 PM
Day 3
a number of runners out in the forest right now, many due in soon. Lara 2nd so far, 140 to come in yet. got 2 video cameras showing finish chutes for those of you who havn't seen the spectacle. Also got live radio oringen going but in swedish of course - untill Stan Foster finished... he was asked about things, remarking that the terrain was tough, and hard to read. Also he is running for England at the moment but will be returning to NZ.

Show Profile  Michael Posted: 27 July 2010, 2:04 PM
Interesting... med eller utan damen?

Show Profile  paultheOctopus Posted: 27 July 2010, 2:31 PM
he didn't divulge such information

Show Profile  paultheOctopus Posted: 27 July 2010, 3:14 PM
the Jagermeister seems to have put in a very tidy time, atm Tane is out there on the same course, Todd also appears to have ran well. Lara's result slowly dropping but here running total looking great. James seems not to have started?

Show Profile  Michael Posted: 27 July 2010, 4:47 PM
I like the Swedish use of the 24hr clock. "There will be a training race between 13-20".

Show Profile  Michael Posted: 27 July 2010, 5:36 PM
OTOH I see that the north lines are not parallel to the sides of the map (at least on one that is on WorldofO). I remember seeing this in Sweden before, strange.

Show Profile  thomasr Posted: 29 July 2010, 6:18 PM
Just chucking a post on my blog now. Sprint race was awesome check out the video on the oringen website. I'm starting to understand why some swedes don't like camping at oringen, another day of wondeful rain again today.

Show Profile  Michael Posted: 30 July 2010, 4:13 AM
I can't find that video? Or any maps. Any clues?
