South Island Champs - Nelson

Show Profile  mcroxford Posted: 13 May 2010, 8:14 AM
Hi All,

Just to inform you all that planning is now underway for the South Island Champs in sunny Nelson. Planned for Show Weekend for those Cantabrians who wish to escape the Northwesters and the weekend before the World Rogaining Champs for those from the North Island who wish to make a week of it. Come join us the weekend before, then travel down to the Waipara region for the rogaine warm-up map and then onto the Champs in Cheviot.

Sprint in or near the heart of the city on the Friday night.
90% sure of a new map in a Gully/Spur Forest and then on the oldie but oh so challenging Rotoiti map - complex moraine covered in manuka scrub for the middle distance.

More details soon.

Entry form up on the website http://www.noc.org.nz/. One omission is the cost of the Middle O on the Sunday. After brief discussion today it was agreed same price as the Sprint O.

Show weekend for those from Christchurch with late starts to accommodate travel from Chch in the Friday morning and then early starts for travel back on Sunday.

Great afternoon of orienteering around the heritage park in Nelson. Great feedback from the runners and some very fast times.

Sorry though, due to small volunteer base it is going to take us until a couple of days after the events to post the results on the website. I'll try and get some interim results in the meantime.

Today it's running around Forest Creek - hilly mixed farm and forest.

Carsten probably the only one to break 10mpk, and this is essentially FLAT. One of NZ's special areas.
