I've been playing catching features...what a way to waste an evening.
Anyway, if run really fast, I end up only seeing the back of my head and the sky and nothing i can do will enable me to see the terrain again. (There's something in that). Anyone know how i can change change the perspective? it's kind of like the camera behind me needs to be changed from a low shot into a high shot but i can't tell the grip to move the crane. Sorry about the film reference, it's just what i know best.

Try changing the perspective, in the options. Also try moving the mouse up and down, this changes your view, you can invert which way goes where in options as well.
On a side note, what was the place in Tauranga you said had the garmins?

Try running at my speed. I'm so slow I can never run fast enough to get round to the back of my head no matter how hard I try.

Mike - try standing on your chair while playing, then you'll be able to see the ground again on the other side of the computer. If you want to go even faster - get a chair with wheels. You can find some tips here: http://howtoadapt.com/RacingWheelchair/RacingWheelchair.shtml However to get that height you need you'll need some Penny-Farthing wheels.
