so, Dave, in that case... the common orienteering theory of only running as fast as you can navigate, not as fast as possible, is flawed. surely you should in fact be running FASTER THAN POSSIBLE, nearing the speed of light, meaning you would be at all controls at the same time - in the correct order - therefore becoming the Thierry Gieorgio.

The new Thierry does run in the future

Yes. Simultaneously at the same time. But by the same token, if you did not maintain your density your increased mass would suck the surrounding area into your immediate vicinity, allowing you to clip all controls at once. unfortunately, your competitors would be sucked in too, so it wouldn't create much of an advantage for you.

Oh no, Dave's practicing his new orienteering theory and is caught in a time loop, and as predicted it's expanding to trap us all

Have just run that simulation, and my first two thoughts are that David Andersson did himself out of a medal by route-choice several times, and isn't that map somewhat greener than some of the sample maps that were floating around before the world champs?

a whole bunch of trippers!

Yeah Nic, the map was was more green in the extreme. The norwegians had trained to run high km's rates. e.g. Holger Hott was targeting 4minute km's. The final map was even greener than the qualificaition map with total green route choices from head to toe and blackberry thrown in to make it even worse. Part of Tania's plan was to catch Jo Alison and move her way through the field. She caught her a the first control, but they may as well have sat down and had high tea. Neither of them hit any controls smoothly. The middle distance was a bush bashing compass bearing race. There are more than a few people that were annoyed with what the map. Mainly because the training and sample maps that were provided to train on looked nothing like the qual and final races. When your in extremnely low visibility with constant fight, and you've trained for the opposite it wastes a year of training. Ross only made one tactical erroe, otherwise the heat killed him. He couldn't even go out the the long final yesterday as he was still buggered. Although he still managed to not only have a good race but also called in Tero Fohr to a control after he'd over shot it. Nice to know some people still put the spirit of the sport first. It may have made the difference between Treo's sliver medal or a bronze or worse.
