Well in the absense of a high performance director, whats the future of our national league?
So maybe we could help get the ball rolling...........
Heres a suggested list of events, have a read, voice your opinion, hopefully we can come to a group consenses??

Round 1
WOA Champs
-Middle(sun)
-Sprint(sun)
-Classic(mon)

Round 2
South Island Champs/South Island Challenge
-Classic(sat)
-Classic(sun)

Round 3
Waitangi Weekend (not sure what events are planned, but guessing something as wicked as last year)
-Sprint
-Middle
-Relay??
-classic

Round 4
Nationals
-Sprint
-Middle
-Long

Round 5
Week following nationals (dont know whether this will go ahead, think they are having meetings about it soon)
But maybe
-Sprint (midweek)
-Middle/long (sat)
-Middle/long (sun)

Round 6
Queens B'day Weekend(Dont actually know whos doing these events???)
-Sat
-Sun

I think this covers a good range of regions and race types (because im assuming that QB, wont be in akld again!)

Clems still on it James, some ideas have already been thrown around

Sounds wicked to me James, nice work!

NISS could also be an option for some races the week after the extra Nationals races. Now that would make for one hell of a season!

The plan is to have a major Easter carnival with the week following having 4 or 5 events. The proposal is for AOC to put on 2 midweek events and NW will do the weekend, with a night event planned as well.
At this stage Queen's Birtday is up for grabs as far as I know.

the carnival ending looks like:
sprint midweek (wed or thur) possibly used as the akl sprint champs
night event midweek (thur or fri)
sat & sunday aswell.

how about using the rogaine thats being incorporated into NISS champs? superseries teams.

And how about a road race as well, fuck off its an orienteering series not a mapsport series

Show Profile  Greg Posted: 23 August 2006, 4:16 AM
Proposed plan put to Clem was:

Round 1
Well Champs

Round 2
SI Champs (Waikaia)

Round 3
Waitangi 4 day

Round 4
Otago Champs

Round 5
Nationals

Round 6
NISS

this would involve asking NISS organisers (Naki is penciled in) if they would incorporate in the event, and the carnival after Nationals was not known about.

2 in each region and since no-one has confirmed Queens B'day you can't really include it.

The rogaine idea sounds cool. It's really just team orienteering and no different to a score event, only at a different scale. It's not like we don't run on different scale maps all the time. How would it work with the super series teams?
Greg, the road race idea is just silly, unless of course it was a street O.

Show Profile  Neil K Posted: 23 August 2006, 9:22 AM
No Rogaine, no score event, no street race, no mtbo. Sprint, Middle, Classic and Long Orienteering, Mass Starts and relays yes.

Show Profile  Michael Posted: 23 August 2006, 9:59 AM
Over the years orienteering has changed and diversified. When planners first made corrections to topographical maps there was controversy - "that's not REAL orienteering, reading between the lines is part of the sport..." Then horror of horrors, someone produced a SPECIAL MAP! Read all about it in Orienteering Today.

There are still many for whom a specified-order, individual course, out of sight of anyone else, with no dummy controls or scale changes, in a forest, on foot, around an hour long, is their preference. Younger orienteers of course are more open to other possibilities, locations and formats....

Don't forget night O and booze O.

Show Profile  Greg Posted: 23 August 2006, 11:17 AM
To quote you Darren “We should make it part of the super series next year!" When talking about the great lake relay, a road race.

The purpose of the SS was to give NZ elites some top class racing against each other at so we are better prepared for overseas racing, rogaining does not do that.

"No Rogaine, no score event, no street race, no mtbo. Sprint, Middle, Classic and Long Orienteering, Mass Starts and relays yes."

Agreed

Show Profile  addison Posted: 23 August 2006, 11:51 AM
James howsabout you run a Queens Birthday so we can have another round?

Show Profile  Kate Posted: 23 August 2006, 11:53 AM
While we're doing SS does anyone have ideas about the Junior Super Series? like juniors- do u reckon it went well? did it mean anything to you? seniors- your thoughts? anyone- is there someone willing to put their hand up to help us juniors out if the idea is supported?
