JWOC UPDATES FROM THE TEAM

Show Profile  HeadHoncho Posted: 1 July 2001, 11:26 PM
Hello from Hungary.

The weather is hot. 30 degrees most days. Terrain is quite nice. Moderately steep, but quite good runnability and enough detail not to make it boring. Should be good competitions. Team has been training OK with no major dramas, although James may have hurt a calf today - we'll see what it is like in the morning.

This weekend we went to a completely different part of Hungary to run their short and relay championships. Unofficially after all others had started. In flat sand-duney type terrain with heaps of vegetation changes. Good for a break. Met a couple of local orienteers who spoke good English and we all had a good night out.

James is a chick magnet.

Another couple of days R and R by a lake and then back to the JWOC area for more training. Will keep you posted. Hope everyone is fine back home.

Ciao, Rob

Well we're less than 24 hours out.

Today was the Model and boy are there some models here. We will shortly be having fun compiling the top 10...

The model was a bit scary as the map had not really been updated from the 1995 version and the flags were hung for dwarves. Still, it should be OK in the white but there are some features that need real care (like pit, bottom of).

Everyone here is well, healthy (except for Greg's ankle strain) and ready to go, but sleep has been a problem. Hopefully everyone will be able to run to their potential tomorrow.

As the internet cafe is 30 minutes away from the event centre and there is only 1 computer in the press office, I can't promise anything re results but we'll try. Maybe by SMS.

Thx for the emails Shaun/Mad Jenni/Mike and those who have sent them to individuals.
