Quality Control

According to the NZOF Rules one of the many duties assigned to the controller is to "check the quality of the map and supervise any updating or re-mapping.."

How many of our A Grade controllers are familliar with the
IOF mapping specification and have the skill to see if the map complies?
Should the ISOM be included in controller's clinics?

The OA Tech Newsletter contains a section on complaints/comments collected from national events. This forum would be just as useful as a corner of an occasional newsletter. But a newsletter does enforce a "cooling off period" and I would suggest commenters wait for 10 days after the event. This allows for more considered comments, and is kinder to those who have worked hard on the event.

Can we please get rid of knolls, depressions and rock faces under 1m? Or if we're not prepared to continually improve the maps (really!) then at least controllers shouldn't allow these features to be used as control sites.

Why not lets just get rid of controllers? Sometimes it seems theres more chance of mistakes been made with two people to share the blame.

...Could always get rid of runners then just assume everything is perfect ;-) ...indirectly fixes the <1m problem too :-P

Or maybe restrict orienteering to runners who are shorter than 1 m. Taller runners are way disadvantaged having to find ankle deep control sites and some of the not-so-light-footed even make new (mappable?) pits as they run. There may even be some shorter runners still out on some courses stuck in those very pits.
Classes could be extended based on height: M21A-Short Tall, M21A-Short Short and so on, W21A Long Tall etc etc Could have a height bar at the start to check just like the amusement park rides.
