Aus/NZ training camp?

Show Profile  :D Posted: 30 August 2004, 8:33 PM
So I heard a rumour that we're having a training camp in NZ around the Oceania champs. Apparently we're waiting on NZ to reply about when it's gunna be, anyone got any ideas? Beer training on Great Barrier does sound a lot more appealing though...

I have sort of schemed something for after Oceania Champs in Rotorua. Haven't had a chance to formalise anything yet. Thought Aussies would be a bit apprehensive about training camp prior because flights around xmas new years would be astronomical.

Would anyone be interested in a week in Rotorua from Monday 17th - Sunday 23rd Jan. I presume it would be rather informal with controls out in the forest and a suggested activities. Group accommodation at Tui Ridge or beside the lake. Maybe a couple of alternative days with runs around the lakes or Mt Tawarewa.

Need to know some very rough numbers, more than 20 would be break even.

A training camp post oceania champs sounds great - we'll get a bit of extra value from our trip across the tasman. what's the terrain like in that area? and is it close enough to visit some real volcanoes and do some runs down there?

Yeah, I reckon Great Barrier would be great. Have already had enquiries from as far away as Norway so I'm sure it will be good!

Rotorua's terrain is among the best in NZ

Plenty of different sorts of forests, some with unique contour detail.

What is crater block like these days?

How about Mamaku, time for an expedition I reckon, even if it is completely unrunnable.

Mamaku I have been informed is hard to find. Apparently the ones who went out to look at it could not suss it out where it actually was.
