A place to note the extraordinary generosity of landowners to us. I am sure that in general we don't thank them enough, and this is not a substitute. Just to raise awareness.

Prompted by a story in yesterday's DomPost about Smedley Station, in Hawkes Bay. Its in the farming pages and describes its history as a farmer-cadet training establishment, with a bit about the current managers Terry and Judy Walters. As well as heaps of traditional orienteering, Smedley played an important role in the development of endurance orienteering, with long events on the topo map and rogaines.

Another one that comes to mind is Glenlean Station near Masterton, venue for the Oceania Relays this year. Mike and Ros Southey were glad to see orienteering back after an interval of some years. But... their daughter was getting married (on the property) sometime in January. Think it might be the next weekend. No wait, its the same day. Would that be a problem? Not at all. Mike even had time to come over and say hello during the morning!
