Start List By Competitor?

Show Profile  DMjunior Posted: 8 October 2012, 11:52 AM
Is it me or is this just annoying?

Show Profile  rossmaxmo Posted: 8 October 2012, 12:04 PM
Both!

I sorted it in excel, check it here:
http://www.sprintthebay.org/oddness/middle.xlsx

I think a redraw might be in order, there seems to be vacant places throughout the start draw = unfair. These need to be at the beginning or end of each grade.

(FYI: this is re Auckland Champs)

Thanks Ross saved me the hassle

Sprint start list was done as follows:
C1 World ranking points - highest ranked last start, non-ranked starting first, randomly assigned.
C2-4 Runners assigned randomly as per software within grades (apart from one parent request).
Vacant places for all courses were placed at end of each grade.

M21E middle distance has vacants at 11:28 and 12:08. W21E has a vacant at 11:46. M40 and M50 also have vancants in the middle of the field for that event.

Interesting to see a mixture of 2, 3 and 4 minute start intervals used across grades.

"assigned randomly as per software" - I had thought it was commonly known (after 9 years of using sportident) that the software is not completely random when drawing start lists for multi-days, even if each is created as an individual event. Quite often the same people will be drawn adjacent, or at the same end of the field.

I'd like to invent a new acronym. SISMITFBWTFII? Suppose its staring me in the face but where the...

http://www.random.org/sequences/
"This form allows you to generate randomized sequences of integers. The randomness comes from atmospheric noise, which for many purposes is better than the pseudo-random number algorithms typically used in computer programs."
Give everyone a number based on alphabetical order and in the time it takes to get a response from your browser, you have assigned randomly.

why was it done on WRE? they aren't WRE?

You are worrying about nothing, I reckon.

It'll be a great event on different terrain, and is not a major event, but a great leadup to the World Cup races.

No such thing as a random number/list as every method used to create them has been devised by a human (who is always biased).

WR - only done on sprint, just thought it would be a good thing and because I could - it's not a hard thing to sort out! Feel free to object on the day however.

I'll save my protest and only use it if my new shoes get dirty
