MTBO in Auckland

Show Profile  Melissa Posted: 12 September 2002, 7:18 AM
Watch out Neil - at the Canterbury Champs you'll have to use an unfenced map like everyone else (unlike Dargaville)!

Show Profile  MASH Posted: 12 September 2002, 1:15 PM
Neil,
I disagree with your statement that all South Islanders are "full of shit".
I think most of us realise there is only one South Islander "full of it", so its not right to
put the rest of them down the sewer with him.

Also, give Rebecca a break, she ran the Dargaville event after competing the
previous day in a gruelling two hour ride mountain bike 'O' event.
She at least took part in both events, unlike others.

I resent that comment, especially coming from an anonymous person with nothing to contribute to the discussion I instituted.

Can you point to anything I said that was incorrect, or didn't have some substantive basis. (apart from the comments about Neil). How does this make me "full of it"?

Poor little Jamie wamie.

Show Profile  MASH Posted: 13 September 2002, 6:37 AM
First rate terrain with first rate courses gets my vote in preference to second rate
terrain/events with more people.
I travel to Rotorua/Taupo from Auckland for OY events if I know the terrain is first rate.

The only people full of it are those that make up shitty excuses to advoid major events and those that hide behind fake names to insult someone - well they are more cowardly than anything. 1 reason I love orienteering so much is the people and any oppertunity I get to see as many of those people at one time I do just about anything it takes to get there.

The reason NZ elite orienteering is going nowhere (or downhill) is because everone is always jumping down each others thoats, we should be helping help each other and trying to work together rather than bitching and insulting - and as for the SI bashing, I think they are the only ones that have worked slightly together and currently the 2 top Elites come from there so what is that telling you.

Show Profile  HeadHoncho Posted: 14 September 2002, 3:31 AM
What that tells me Gregory is that you do not consider yourself to be one of the top 2 elites in NZ (unless you're moving to the South Island upon your long-awaited return to these shores)

That indicates a major breakthrough for you in self-rating your ability. Well done.

Jamie, I believe the accusation that you are "full of it" is more a long-term assessment of your contributions to this forum. Note I am not necessarily agreeing with the assertion, but even you would have to admit that at times your postings here have been less than factual.

Show Profile  Jamie Posted: 14 September 2002, 1:08 PM
not factual, but mostly my honest opinion

I may be wrong

but then, I don't see orienteering, elite or otherwise, going anywhere fast (or even at a steady Woodhill pace)

so whats wrong with debates about new ideas, or criticisms of the current ones? That is what this forum is for and I encourage others to join in for the benefit of orienteering

I have had enough of those who want the status quo, especially Aucklanders who pop up to woodhill or down to Taupo to run on quality maps against the clock, and don't want anything changing their tedious little lives. Neither will their little events last forever, look at all those grey hairs around doing all the work.

Speaking about tedious I'm in the library on a saturday night, and I was here last night too.

Spank a dog and call me neil.

I agree with Jamie. Forums are about raising ideas and thoughts and to hear what others have to say on the matter.

In my case, I want the NZSSC 2003 To be in the first School Holidays. It makes Sense. 4 years it worked well. The reason is possibly the fact that Orienteers new and experienced have just finished the Summer Series of events, and then can go straight into an autumn run.

Now for the forum to work as it should, people should post ideas on the thoughts and ideas I have just raised, as I am raising ideas and thoughts on what others have said.

when was the last time an event outside auckland attracted 400+ competitors Jamie.
Old people run the sport for the young people. This makes sense.
Jamie is full of it.

yippee kiyae mother f**ker.

Show Profile  Greg Posted: 15 September 2002, 2:24 AM
Rob it depends on if I was talking about the 2 top males or 2 top females or a combination of the 2.

Jamie/Greg
I seemingly condecended to a gutter level of decorum on this forum with my recent posting.
The "down the sewer with him" reference pun was a bit naughty and the "full of it" phrase
repeated from 19 posts back also appears to be a scathing mistake.
I have read far worse on this forum but that does not excuse my lapse in etiquette.
I appologise for my insensitivity.

Headhoncho
As diplomatic as ever. I'm in awe of you. Reading all that between the lines of my posting. Have you ever
considered a career change? You would make a good polititian or maybe a specialist
contemporary art critic ;) No, on second thoughts, stay where you are, they are all
"full of it".

Yours cowardly
Mike Ashmore

ps Congratulations Rachel & Darren for winning the Auckland Champs elite titles.

Spring, Summer, Autumn "O' yeh !

Wow !
I have just read Jamies last posting.
Now, I'm not as good as our HeadHoncho at reading between the lines but am I right in
thinking Jamie can't wait for all us grey hairs to die off so that progress can be made in our sport.?
Well if so, I suggest to all my fellow tedious little life grey hairs out there, resign from all aspects of our sports
administration etc and become competitor/participants only.
Lets leave the running of our sport to the likes of young and worldly experienced Jamie !
Come on you grey hairs, I did this 4-5 years ago for similar and other selfish reasons.
Dam'it, I have again lapsed into tedious bad etiquete.
My appologies.

ps just for the record, I did not attend this years Nationals or Auckland Champs (no little events)
purely because of my terrain choice. My prerogative I think.

no that is wrong Mike,

I have all due respect for "the grey hairs" who run our sport. And again I resent your comment that I don't.

my point was that these erstwhile and genuine people are continually under pressure to run events, in particular I am thinking of the Central North Islanders, such as Mark McKenna (no grey hairs), Terry Brighouse, Jim Lewis etc...what would we do without them. Orienteering is slowly fading and the points of pressure to maintain it are focussing on a few.

this is partially due to the fact that orienteering at present is focussed on running high quality events for stuff all people, this is unsustainable.

Dave, I beleive a more appropriate question would be when was the last time an event on the outskirts of Auckland attracted 400 people?

Mike, don't try to read too much between the lines, and if you want to say something please justify it. Otherwise it isn't worth the screen its written on

Show Profile  Jamie Posted: 15 September 2002, 8:04 AM
are there genes for orienteering preference? Or is it psycho/socially formed?
