New Zealand's biggest rogaine is on again - in two months time - Sunday 15 May. The event where you can race sitting down. Wellington plus Petone. www.citysafari.org.nz

Always a great mixture of teams from world champions to 3-generation family teams. And a great mixture of travel possibilities, provided by two bus companies, a railway, cablecar and a harbour ferry. Feet are also allowed.

Overall winners of the NZ Rogaine Champs (this weekend) and the NZ Orienteering Champs (M/W21E in the Long) offered free entry. Entry forms out soon. Find us on Facebook.

And best wishes to the Eco City Challenge, similar event this weekend in Waitakere City. www.lacticturkey.co.nz

Well done Jamie and Greig for your NZ Rogaine win in Marlborough, we welcome you to the City Safari in May. You might even be able to win, we hear that one of last year's winning team is going to be overseas...

Negotiating with a large exporter to provide valuable prizes for the winning team. A bottle of milk.

Wellington's mayor will open the 3-hour Safari. Celia Wade-Brown is Wellington's first Green mayor, though her centre-right predecessor Kerry Prendergast has always supported the event too. Celia took part in the 2006 event but her new duties have ruled that out; she may be able to take part in the 10-minute prologue on the waterfront.

Last year's winning team won't be there as such with Bill Edwards overseas (2nd M40 in the JK). However Yvette Baker will be there with some little Bakers. And another world champion Dennis de Monchy (Rogaine 2006) will compete with Erik van Eyndhoven. Dennis was 2nd (by 5 points) with Nathan Fa'avae in 2008

500 and climbing. Teams from Whangarei to Chch. Wgtn city councillor Andy Foster (8th in the NZ rogaine champs). Al Cross previous Crazyman (and Safari) winner. Heaps of families on the 3hr course. Effectively 500 orienteering publicity officers will fan out through the city waving maps around.

We had a spot of rain in Wellington this morning, but the Safari forged ahead with only the absence of the harbour ferry affecting things. The 6hr race was won by a mixed team again: Mark Wallace, Sue Allen and Ben Sutherland, ahead of previous winner Andy Foster and Mark Hearfield. This was a good win over the curent NZ vet men champions.

The 3hr race was easily won by experienced adventure racers Rachel Drew (nee Ockelford) and Liam Drew; in second were upcoming SS orienteers Calvin Standrill, Simon Teesdale and Shamus Morrison. I've rogained with two of these guys and they impressed me the way that Nick Hann did three years ago.

But the run of the day might go to George Engleback and Liam Stevens. Taking part dressed as road cones, they won the 6hr school section. Might not seem remarkable; but these guys are eleven!
