Hi everyone - just a reminder about the rogaine this Sunday - it will be around the Muriwai/Pulpit Rock area which is a perfect rogaining location - heaps of decent hills, big features, and the odd bit of green to navigate around/through as well!

There are classes for everyone:

Individual, or Team, or School Team
Male, Female, or Mixed
Junior(<21), Open, or Veteran (40+)
School : Junior*, Intermediate, Senior

Note, the overall winner however must be a team (2 or more).

Registration opens at 9.30, briefing at 10.20, maps out at 10.30, then mass start at 11.00am. 3 Hours duration with finish at 2.00pm, and prize giving soon after.

Look forward to seeing as many people as possible there - should be fun!

Special Forest Gate Entry Instructions

IMPORTANT NOTE: Forest security now means that every car must be positively identified as a car going to the Rogaine event.

There are two ways of proving your identity:

1. The first is to show an SPORTIdent card (one per vehicle is sufficient). This electronic card is unique to orienteering and will be accepted as proof of identity by the gate person.
2. For those without an e-card available, youll need to show the gate person a unique form. We will send a copy to all pre-registered competitors at Friday around midday. If you haven't registered before then - email auckoc [at] hotmal.com for a copy.

Without either this form or an SPORTident card the gate man will question you until he is certain you have come to the forest to participate in the Rogaine run by Auckland Orienteering Club.

Great to see the increase in rogaines round Auckland, also the emphasis on the team aspect. There are lots of people who prefer team to individual sport.

Also this weekend: Marlborough OC which has been doing rogaines from the very early days has one. And Bruce McLeod has resurrected E.P.I.C. Navigation and is running a rogaine at Ophir in Central Otago.

Looking good for this weekend - about 70 people entered so far, and we're taking entries up to the day, so we should tip 100 or more with a bit of luck.

For any beginners to rogaining, we'll be having a brief mini training session at 10am sharp - meet at registration, and we'll give you a few tips on using yur compass, orientating the map, and what to do if you get lost!

See you there!

100 if you include Jess, she had a great day and at least two less possums out there now. Thanks to AOC for a great event!

Glad you had fun Marquita - and enjoyed all the gratuitous climbing we built into it - some great views from the top of those hills!

And thanks to all who attended - great seeing plenty of new faces, and also great to see those orienteers open to a bit of adventure and fun!

Looks like The Omen and RARGH ripped it up - I'm assuming 2070 was max. Who was in those teams Pete?

Show Profile  pete s Posted: 14 September 2010, 4:19 PM
yeah, those guys were on fire - I was gobsmacked they came in under 2 hrs - fantastic effort. The Omen was Gene Beveridge and Matt Ogden , closely followed by James Bradshaw a minute later. Toby Scott and Jourdan were in RARGH. Sounds like the guys have been training ultra hard since JWOC, this course measured about 17-18kms from memory, but some big hills, so pretty impressive k rate...
