Today is the middle distance of the 2nd round of the 2008 World Cup. And the New Zealand team consists of the four debutants Greta Knarston, Lizzie Ingham, Thomas Reynolds and Simon Jager (using this middle distance as a straight into the hard stuff preparation for the Junior World Champs) and then the internationally experienced James Bradshaw and Ross Morrison.
Ross and James will also compete in tomorrows chasing start on the long distance while the Juniors will compete in their normal grade at O-festivallen (the biggest orienteering event in Norway that the World Cup is part of), this is to make sure that the Juniors are not over doing with competing in a very long distance just after arriving in Europe.
There is a write up about the events here
http://www.ultimate-orienteering.com/?p=114
The start list for the women are here:

The start list for the men are here:

And the online results and commentary should start up here (sometime just past midnight our time):

Word from the JWOC team is that they are safely in Norway. The group that left Auckland on Tuesday survived the gruelling 30+ hours of travel to arrive without any dramas. They are currently staying in a ski club "house" on the edge of the forest where Saturday's event is being run. They are fairly isolated apparently so they should be able to focus on a quick recovery from all the travel. For a few members of the team the lead up to their departure was also pretty gruelling (e.g. Thomas who sat 3 Uni exams in 2 days and Simon who had 5 exams in 5 days - including the morning of the day they left). Their accommodation is self-catering so hopefully Norm's reputation as viking chef and the 60kg of food they carried with them from New Zealand will mean they wont go hungry while they are in Norway!!
Anyway here's to some great O-ing from the 6 kiwis running today.

Ross & James about to start in second day of World Cup event - chasing start.
Results for JWOC team who ran in the public race today are at:
http://wiberg.skiinfo.com/~anderso/online/wc2cr208/
in D19-20 and H19-20 class
For the 4 who ran yesterday in the World Cup middle distance, you have to ignore the cumulative total column and look at the third columm over for their performance today. Because they ran a different class yesterday they were allocated random chasing start times today.
