2X2 Sprint Relay

There's an interesting thread on Attackpoint about a 2X2 sprint relay held in Canberra on 29 Mar. A team of two run alternately ABAB. A small complex area like a campus gets twice as much use as it would from an individual sprint; and runners get twice as much time on the course.
Leaving aside the issues of whether the splits of this particular race were fair and whether it should be mixed-gender, I think the event format has a lot of merit. The Inghams ran a 2X2 relay in Wellington for a number of years but it was traditional terrain with perhaps middle-distance leg lengths. The essence of this idea is it is a sprint, I think with courses designed to create runners going every which way.
